Recent AAP's statistics show that the average child watches about four hours of television a day while 20% of them have TV in their rooms. Early childhood is the period for brain development. I strongly believe that watching TV should be forbidden for children under 5.
Firstly, a child's brain is very sensitive at the age of 2 and is still developing and growing. Due to that, it is important for babies to have a lot of interactive activities, which cannot be provided by TV. Without conversation they might have problems to improve their language and vocabulary.
Furthermore, more and more children prefer television to other forms of entertainment and they spend hours watching it without changing their position. In addition to that, children can watch films full of violence or pornography, which make them less sensitive.
On the other hand, some people argue that TV is a great source of information and fun. Watching it children have opportunity to expand their horizons and knowledge. However, babies are the most endangered with a bad influence of powerful medium as they are the easiest victims of manipulation.
To conclude, I think TV watching causes many problems such as childhood obesity, ADHD and aggression.
