The Secret Garden

“The Secret Garden” written by Frances Hodgson Burnett is truly a timeless and wonderful children's classic. The book tells the story of Mary Lennox, an orphan sent to her unknown uncle and Colin Craven, her sickly, spoiled cousin whose mother died giving birth to him. The story relates to the adventure in the secret garden which changes them into healthy and empathetic children.
The story is about Mary Lennox, an unwanted and isolated ten year-old girl living in India. As her parents are only concerned about parties and social life, the child becomes a spoiled and snobbish girl. When an epidemic of cholera kills her family, Mary is sent to her uncle's remote country house, who is almost completely withdrawn into himself after his wife’s death. In England, she lives at Misselthwaite where she must learn to be independent. Soon, Mary discovers a walled, secret garden that has been locked up for the last ten years after her aunt's death. The girl hears somebody crying and explores the whole house. Finally, she finds Colin, her spoiled and sick cousin who is isolated in his room. Mary, Colin and their new friend- Dicon enjoy each other’s company, they restore the secret garden, which helps them to regenerate themselves effectively.
”The Secret Garden” is an excellent novel of ideas and of the most original and brilliant children's books. The book is perfect for young readers because of the clear and simple language. The complex characters and the moving plot make it even more interesting .
It is worth reading as the book has its own magic and will boost the imagination of any child. What is more, the storyline becomes the sort of a metaphor for life- against the saying, even the leopard can change his spots.

My first teacher

My first teacher, at my primary school, was Mrs.Jones. I met her in September 1998. She was teaching in Primary School No 22. She has been my teacher for three years and she professed me all subjects. Next, in 4th class, she professed only biology.
She was in her thirties, she looked young. She wasn’t tall, she was medium height. She was slim, but she wasn’t too pretty. She had ginger hairs, she hadn’t got a fringe. Sometimes she wore a ponytail or a bun. Her eyes were big and green. She has long eyelashes and thin, arched eyebrows. She has small, straight nose and thin mouth. Her face was round. She looked nice.
She always wore jeans, top and jacked. Sometimes, but so rarely, she wore blouses or skirts. She didn’t like skirts and dresses. She had got boots on heels, she never wore sports shoes. Usually she had got gold jewellery. She liked long earrings.
She was nice and easy-going. She always had got good ideas – she imagined many plays for us. She always was in good mood, she was happy and relaxed. She was intelligent and interesting. She liked going with us to trips. But sometimes, when she had bad mood, she was so loud and aggressive. She was quick-tempered.

Real education takes place outside classrooms. Do you agree?

Schools do not prepare teenagers to real life. Young people are not aware of a lot of problems, which can be experienced in their future. As a result, they learn only plenty of schematic terms. Moreover, outside schools, in students’ closest surroundings, there are great sources of information about life. Thanks to people, who have experience, young people can gain some useful clues, which tell them how to survive in the society. Furthermore, schools often make students confused in values. There happen situations, in which they lie or cheat, because that way is easier. Consequently, they do not know which values are really important in life.
On the other hand, schools teach teenagers things, which are necessary to find a well-paid job. If students did not attend schools and learn there, they would not be educated and they would not provide a support for their families. Without that it would be a hard task.
On balance, I am convinced that real education takes place outside schools. It does not consist only in memorizing texts and terms. Young people do not learn how to be good adult at classrooms, but they gain this knowledge from their closest members of family, friends and authorities.

How educational background determine personalities and live achievements?

School is a place where we usually spend almost 12 years, from 6 to 18 years old and sometimes additionally 5 years when somebody is going to the university. It is said that it is a place which have huge influence of our behaviour and determine our personality and life achievements,
The first main factor of educational background are teachers. They grow us up and teach what is good and what is wrong to do. They have huge influence of our behaviour and personality and what is more, they spread knowledge and encourage to try new things and gain experience. It improves our hobbys (hobbies?) and eagerness to trying new things. The second main factor is school. First is kindergarten, then primary school, high school or the others and then universities. It’s a great part of time we spend inside so this is the reason why school is called ‘our second home’. Moreover, school is helpful while we choose our path of education. It is high importance to choose the way which we are interested in, which will be our passion in future. It is not good to do this undress the pressure of parents because the effort will be useless and we will lead unhappy life. Another factor are peers and peer pressure. We want to be well-knowed in surrounding and have a lot of friends,
Summarising, there is a lot of factos which determine our live achievements depends on educational background, It is really important to choose proper way of life and education.

Participating in exchange visits is useful. Do you agree with this statement? Justify.

In our modern world, especially young people have more and more opportunities of travelling abroad. On of these possibilities is participating in exchange visits. I strongly believe that taking part in such events is useful and has many advantages.
Firstly, exchange visits are a perfect way to improve your language skills. There is no better chance to broaden your vocabulary or acquire language than talking with native speakers in their mother country. As a consequence, communication in a foreign language is becoming much easier. Moreover, exchange visits have generally low prices. They are considered to be as not expensive as trips organized by travel agencies, therefore they allow more people to travel abroad. Besides this, by participating in exchange visits, people can broaden their knowledge about other countries and cultures. If students were not take part in them, they would not visit famous places so easily and they would not make international friends.
However, travelling abroad is always connected with some kind of risk. These journeys are not predictable and they might be stressful, because you are not certain how to behave in some situations. In addition, you can also be hurt, as someone misunderstands or offends you.
To sum up, the benefits seem to overwhelm the drawbacks and I notice a positive side of exchange visits. Not only are they a possibility to learn more about foreign languages, but also an amazing adventure, which brings unforgettable moments and feelings remaining in a memory for a long time.

Rewarding children is the best method of upbringing. Why? Why not?

Upbringing is an extremely hard challenge, which every parent must face with. There are a lot of methods of child-rearing and all of them have their own consequences in child’s later life. I definitely believe that rewarding children is not the best one.
To start with, rewarding has very harmful influence on young children’s behaviour and personalities. They might become selfish, greedy, impolite and spoiled. As a result, if they were praised and rewarded quite frequently, they would make their parents give them everything what they want. Furthermore, more and more regular rewarding causes that children get used to it. Only this way will they fulfill their duties and they will not be able to do something selflessly. Consequently, children will not be learnt that besides taking, there is also giving and sharing.
Nevertheless, it is believed that rewarding is one of the best ways of encouraging. Various awards and praises are an inseparable part of upbringing and they give young people a lot of determination and motivation. In addition, a lack of rewarding harms much more than its excess.
Taking everything into account, I am convinced that rewarding as a method of upbringing has its bad sides. Too much praises can easily lead children to improper behaviour and negative qualities or attitudes. Especially later it will be hard to redress wrong decisions made in the past.

For many people, the most important quality in a job is the salary it brings. What are you looking for in a job?

Undeniably, money is important. It provide us worthful, comfortable life and, what’s the most relevant, they can make most of our dreams come true but can it gives us health, love, friendship or satisfaction from job?
When I think about my future job I imagine that it is something I really like to do and it gives me a lot of fun and gladness. I would be grateful if it could render me developing new abilities, meeting new people and bring me high salary by the way but is it essential? Definitely not for me.
However, nowadays it’s really hard for young people to balance education and work but without trying they are not able to make a living or put aside for studies so for them the salary that job brings is truly considerable.
Generally, I hope people will go by something more than the salary while choosing a job, because I think that the best things in life are free and it would be way better if we could do what we love and what gives us pleasure.

Should students be assessed by giving them marks at school?

Nowadays, students are assessed by giving them marks at school. But is it good for them? According to the recent research, almost 78 percent of learners are against this way of evaluation. I will try to show pros and cons of it.
Initially, I would like to bring forward faults of this problem. First of all, students often learn for degrees, not for them and their scholarship. But it is not fine. We should learn for us to have knowledge about surrounding us world. It is not important how we are assessed but what informations we have got.
Secondly, it is a huge stress for pupils. They study a lot to have a certificate with the distinction or to pass to the next class. Sometimes they do not carry off schooling, give in and sometimes they just break down. This pursuit of marks has not a helpful influence on students’ health.
But on the other hand this way of evaluation is also good for learners. The marks are feedback of our scholarship. Thanks to marks we find out about our progress. It is also a signal what is our weak point and what we should study more.
All things considered, there are more disadvantages of assess students by giving them marks. Students have to be assessed but not by degrees. In my opinion, the solution should be interposition a point system when pupils are assessed by points.

Advantages and disadvantages of multi-generation families living under the same roof.

Nowadays most people want to move out quickly from their parents, but not everyone. There are still some multi-generation families who live under the same roof.
Living with many relatives might be very helpful. Consequently, if you have some problem, you will always find someone, who will advise you smartly. What is more, the house works are shared by everyone, which is very useful. Furthermore, when your house is full of people, you have really good entertainment. There is always some member of your family, who will talk with you. As a result, you not only never feel bored, but also lonely.
Living with multi-generation family can be very annoying. There are some situation, when you need peace and quiet, but you cannot focus because of constant noise. In a consequence, it is hard to be alone even for a while. Moreover, your house will never be spacious. You can find almost everywhere someone’s stuff and as a result your home might be a little bit messy. Additionally, this life means many expenses. In such house everything is all the time needed, so it is hard to save some money.

In conclusion, living under the same roof with multi-generation family has its advantages and disadvantages. Although drawbacks seem to be huge, people should not forget of benefits, which they can gain from this type of living.

Are you in favour or against the zoo?

The animals in zoo certainly feel bad.
First of all they have not sufficiently big space and live in unnatural habitat. Their cages are small and uncomfortable. Secondly they are often lonely and sometimes untidy. Because of it they are in bad condition and they are sick. These neglected animals need our help.
Rarely, but it happens the animals in zoo do not have their vets and this is next disadvantage of keeping the animals in zoo. Too often contact with people also have bad influence to animals – they lose their instinct. First advantage of keeping the animals in zoo is that we can watch the animals which live near us and learn many interesting things about them. Secondly the animals are not hungry and frozen.
However I am against the zoo, because in my opinion it is torture for the animals to live in captivity and I think we should not take their freedom away.

Can the television be educational or does it play a negative role in the education?

Can television be educational? I think there are some advantages of television because you can find there a lot information- some news( 24 hours news programs), some programmes about nature and animals( Animal Planet or Discovery), some programmes about health. I think they are very useful for a young men who goes to school. Also you can find there some biographical programmes about important writers. That information you can use on your polish lessons. On TV you can also find a lot of great movies- movies that you have to watch because they expand our minds and consciousness.
There are also some disadvantages of television. First of all more than 90% of all programmes daze ours brains. There are so much soap operas, so much senseless commercials about washing powders and pain killers, so much reality shows and talk shows about my neighbour’s unfaithfulness or overweigh.
In my opinion television can be educational but you have to know how to use it in a good way. First of all you can not watch TV all the time. There are good, educational things to watch but also senseless and dazing programmes. You have to select things that you watch on TV. In otherwise you will turn into coach potato.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Living with the Parents

Leaving home by young people is a problem to be considered individually. The main advantages may be: subsistence, housework or advice. As far as economic reasons are concerned, a young person does not have to worry about payments. In this way he has more money to spend for leisure activities. Another advantage may be less housework to do, which means more time for studying. You do not have to worry about cooking, ironing or cleaning. If you live with parents, you always have someone to talk to and rely on. Parents support you in difficult situations and their life-based wisdom can be very helpful. As you can see there might be quite a few advantages of staying at home with parents. However, one may also see some disadvantages, like: limited privacy or different opinions. Parents may watch your hands and the way of doing things. You may often have to explain where you have been or what you have done. Different points of view and quarrels are nearly unavoidable. Generally, in my opinion the matter of leaving home is a very individual one and should not be decided too quickly. One should carefully consider all pros and cons before deciding which case is better.

The Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity.

Foundation The Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity was founded in 1993. It is an organisation which is run by Jurek Owsiak. The Foundation’s aim is to work of health protection and especially childrens life and supporting their treatment. The fundation pursues this aim by organizing the Great Finale money collections, by purchasing medical equipment for hospitals all over Poland. What most people would say when asked about their first association with WOŚP is the January money collection called the Great Finale. Heedless of snow and frost, thousands of volunteers and milion of Poles march the streets of Poland to collect donations for a given aim. Each year, the Foundation chooses a theme – the aim they want to achieve.
