Rewarding children is the best method of upbringing. Why? Why not?

Upbringing is an extremely hard challenge, which every parent must face with. There are a lot of methods of child-rearing and all of them have their own consequences in child’s later life. I definitely believe that rewarding children is not the best one.

To start with, rewarding has very harmful influence on young children’s behaviour and personalities. They might become selfish, greedy, impolite and spoiled. As a result, if they were praised and rewarded quite frequently, they would make their parents give them everything what they want. Furthermore, more and more regular rewarding causes that children get used to it. Only this way will they fulfill their duties and they will not be able to do something selflessly. Consequently, children will not be learnt that besides taking, there is also giving and sharing.
Nevertheless, it is believed that rewarding is one of the best ways of encouraging. Various awards and praises are an inseparable part of upbringing and they give young people a lot of determination and motivation. In addition, a lack of rewarding harms much more than its excess.
Taking everything into account, I am convinced that rewarding as a method of upbringing has its bad sides. Too much praises can easily lead children to improper behaviour and negative qualities or attitudes. Especially later it will be hard to redress wrong decisions made in the past.
